Left out of draw, Serena opts out of China Open
BEIJING - Serena Williams will miss the China Open after being left out of the draw on Friday.
Williams had been called to play, and the organizers did not explain why he was not in the draw.
Williams, Sam Stosur player in U.S. Open final, but won two tournaments in his last Grand Slam of the season and was considered the favorite.
Maria Sharapova withdrew from the tournament. He injured his left ankle this week's Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
